Major George Herbert Bourne, of the Light Horse, to whom has been awarded the Distinguished Service Order, is a son of Mr. J. S. P. Bourne (land commissioner at Maryborough), and brother of Dr. Eleanor Bourne. He is a valued official of the Bank ot New South Wales. It is understood that Major Bourne, since the Romani battle in the desert, has been promoted to the rank of, lieutenant-colonel.
Distinguished Service Order
'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He held the outpost line against heavy odds for four hours, and then gradually and skilfully withdrew. A few ays later he held the extreme flank with great determination at a critical time.'
