Private Arthur Joseph Brown (Service No:N266823) initially enlisted in the AIF as a Sapper (Service No:NX95293) attached to 2 MD Engineers Training Depot and was Discharged (Medically Unfit) on 7 August 1942. Private Brown served with the ACMF 13th Battalion VDC from 2 April 1942 to 15 September 1945.

Born in 1904 in Sydney NSW, Bill was the sixth of thirteen children of Joseph Stephen Brown (b1845 in Reidsdale, NSW) and second wife Selina Augusta Minna Beckinsale (nee Palmer; b1877 in Warialda, NSW). Joseph (a Marine Engineer) and Selina married in 1898 in Sydney, NSW where they settled and raised thir family.

Bill was a Labourer in Sydney NSW where, in 1925, he married Emily Ruth Horsham (b1905 in Zeehan, Tasmania) - Emily was working as a Factory Hand. Bill and Emily settled at Eden Monaro where Bill was a Sawyer when he enlisted in the Army in 1942. Bill and Emily lived in Moss Vale and Nowra where Bill was a Sawyer and Saw Sharpener. Emily died in 1969 and Bill in 1973.
