When enlisted he lowered his aged by over ten years, Statuatory Declaration gives his date of birth as 30 July 1860 however in other places his year of birth is given as 1862c. Son of Peter George O'Flaherty and Janet O'Flaherty of Waterford, Ireland.
During 1883c Thomas married Sarah Ann Matthews.
