Corporal Royal Westlake (Service No:V351517) served in the ACMF with 8th Battalion VDC from 28 March 1942 to 20 September 1945.

Roy was born in Kenmare, Victoria in 1908, youngest of six children of William Henry Westlake (b1864 at Big Gorge in Yankalilla, South Australia) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Esther Dellar (b1868 in Hamilton, Victoria). William had settled in Kenmare in 1890 and was a Farmer in 1895 when he and Lizzie married in Willenabrina. They lived in Kenmare and Portland where they raised their family and William was a Farmer. William served as a Borough councillor and member of the Hospital Board, and was a prominent member and life Deacon of the Baptist Church (Trove: Obituary 1949).

Roy was a Car Proprietor in Portland in 1944 when he married Moyna Winifred Hickmer (b1918 in Hamilton, Victoria) - Moyna was a Saleswoman in Portland. Roy and Moyna settled in Portland where they raised their family and by 1951 Roy was a Farmer. Roy died in 1991 and Moyna in 2000.
