Charles Giltrap's Irish family
Charles Giltrap was from a family of 11 born to James and Jane Giltrap. James Giltrap was born in 1841 in County Carlow, Ireland and Jane Spence was born 23rd August, 1839 in Ballitore, County Kildare, Ireland.
Charles Giltrap's grandfather was another James Giltrap born in 1815 in Rathvilly, County Carlow, Ireland and was married to Eliza Dowling from Aghold, County Wicklow, Ireland. They were married on the 9th October, 1837 in Aghold.
Charles Giltrap's wife Isabella Frances Farmer was born in Jubbulpore, India. They were married in Ireland and had three children (Irene Isabella, William Charles and Henry) before emigrating to Australia in 1912. They had another child (Albert Edward) born in Australia.
Charles Giltrap's younger brother was William Walter Giltrap and he named his eldest son Charles after his older brother.
William Walter Giltrap was my grandfather. I never knew my great uncle Charles but I am very proud of his military service during World War 1.

He enlisted on the 19th of August 1915 in Adelaide, South Australia. He was a carpenter before he joined the army. His last unit was 3rd field company engineers. He was born in Ireland in 1877 on the 2nd of February. His hometown was Stirling Adelaide Hills South Australia. He is on the Tusmore Burnside District Roll of Honour.
