Private John Roderick Francis Jones (Service No:W86603) enlisted in the ACMF on 25 April 1942 with 15 Battalion VDC Merredin. Private Jones transferred to 8 Battalion VDC Kalgoorlie on 7 April 1943 and was Discharged on 28 July 1943. Son John (LAC; Service No:80909) served in the RAAF in WWII.
The eldest of five children (sons), John was born at Walkaway in Geraldton WA to Thomas Edward Jones (b1857 in Greenough, WA) and Mary (Gussie) Augusta McCoo (b1870 in Greenough, WA). Thomas was Publican at Gullewa Hotel (north of Geraldton) when he and Gussie married in 1888 at Goolwa WA. Gussie took over as Publican when Thomas died in 1897, and in 1904 at Yalgoo remarried Emmett Michael Gill (b1869 in Spring Creek, Victoria). Gussie again took over as Publican in Pindar WA following Emmett's death in 1918.
John was working as a Labourer in Pindar WA in 1916 when he married Ethel Florence Ward (b1892 in London, England) - Ethel (a Domestic Servant) had immigrated in 1913 arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Belgic and was working as a Waitress in Pindar WA when she and John married. John worked as a Teamster, Carrier and Miner and was a Sheep Farmer at Mt Palmer in WA when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1941. By 1949 John and Ethel had Retired to Darlington at Mundaring WA. John died in 1961 and Ethel in 1972.
