Brother of Malcolm O'Bryan DCM who returned to Australia on 29 January 1919 having served with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade

On 7 January 1919 Donald married Christina Edwards the Parish Church, Harefield, England. A.A. Harland officiated.

Commenced return to Australia on 19 August 1919 aboard HT Ajana, having failed to embark HT Ulysses, disembarked on 9 October 1919 at Sydney for onward travel to Melbourne
