One of three brothers who served in WWII (Baden, Clement and Walter), Signalman Clement Joh Loring (Service No:TX1355) enlisted in the AIF on 30 April 1940 - Trade Gorup Lineman. Signalman Loring served with 7th Division Signals in the Middle East and Greece (14 February 1941 - 18 February 1942) and New Guinea (12 August 1942 - 4 July 1943). Signalman Loring was seriously injured (fractured jaw, concussion, abrasions to scalp, face and chest) in Cairns on 7 February 1944 when the military vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned. Signalman Loring was attached to 1 Corps Signals Medium Artillery at Discharge on 7 May 1945 (Medically Unfit).
John was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1907, third of seven children of Clements (Clem) James Thomas Loring (b1876 in Hobart, Tasmania) and Florence Mary Lyons (b1880 in Hobart, Tasmania). Clem and Florence married in 1900 in Hobart, where they settled and raised their family and Clem worked as a Labourer.
John worked as a Labourer in New Town in Hobart, and in 1930 married Katherine (Kit) Florence Glenora Parnell (b1912 in London, England) - Kit immigrated in 1921, arriving in Hobart on board the Osterley. John and Kit settled in New Town, where they raised their family. Following his Discharge from the Army in 1945, John worked as a Lineman - and in 1948 was badly injured when he fell from a Hydro Electric Commission pole he was installing. In 1972 John was awarded an Imperial Service Medal (PMG Lineman; Government Honour Records). John died in 1974 and Kit died in 2000.
