Private Howard Vernon Pearce (Service No:WX19989) enlisted in the AIF on 9 March 1942 with 13 Training Battalion - graded Carpenter. Private Pearce was attached to 67 Deputy Commander Royal Engineers (DCRE) Works at Discharge on 21 March 1944,
Vern was born in Williams, Western Australia in 1905, fifth of seven children of John Charles Stephen Pearce (b1865 in Fremantle, Western Australia) and Emily Woods (b1882 in Beverley, Western Australia). John worked as a Labourer in Coaling via Williams, and in 1899 he and Emily married in Wandering. They lived in Pingelly, Williams Bridge, Williams and Coaling, where they raised their family and John was a Labourer. By 1914 John was a Line Repairman for WAGR, and the family lived in Wagin, Ballaying and Arthur River before retiring to Bickley. John died in 1945 and Emily in 1947.
Vern worked as a Carpenter in Bassendean, where in 1928 he married Thelma Elizabeth Reardon (b1907 at Greenbushes, Western Australia). Vern and Thelma lived in Kalgoorlie and Norseman, where Vern was a Builder, and following his Discharge from the Army, the family settled in Bayswater, where Vern was a Builder. Thelma died in 1979 and Vern in 1981.
