Charles Alfred Melville was born in Darlinghurst, Sydney, and in his teenage years completed an apprenticship as a Motor Mechanic.

His unwavering sense of patriotism saw him enlist at aged 18 in the 1st Field Squadron Cavalry Engineers, were he served for 8 years as a volunteer, while still working as a motor mechanic.

He then enlisted in the RAAF aged 26 where he served for 2 years and 5 days as an Areo Fitter in the 22 Squadron.  His ambition was to become a combat pilot but his height of 5ft 5inches seemed to derail his dream.

With WW2 looming, he enlisted with the Permanent Military Forces at age 29 where he served for 2 years, before re-enlisting with the Austalian Imerial Forces.

He was sent to Narellan Camp at aged 30, and then months later was released to War with the 58 Corps Field Park Co, where he served time in New Guinea.

He acheived the rank of Warrant Officer and was Discharged aged 34 years 7 months.

After the war, at aged 44 he met and married Marjorie and they had a daughter Anne.  Together they lived in the home Charles built for his mother 8 Military Rd Bondi, before moving in 1967 to 43 Eden Ave Coolangatta where he lived until his death in 1978.

He was an man with an outstanding moral compass, a good and loyal friend to many, and a loving, kind and extrodinary, son, brother, husband and father, who was taken from his family far too early in life.
