Biography contributed by Anita Tsamtsikas

Hristou Vassili TSOUTOULIS (aka Chris Vasili) was born in the Macedonia/ Greece town of Polipotamus (translates in English to Many Rivers) in the district of Florina.

In 1938 Chris boarded the ship Moreton Bay in South Hampton and arrived in Western Australia on 4 July 1938.

Four years later in June 1942 he enlisted in the AIF, unfortunately he was discharged less than a year later with a disability diagnosed as a Gastric Ulcer.

In 1945, Chris was working in Darwin as a cook, where he had been charged with committing a Breach of the National Security. The article doesn't say what that involved, but it does not seem to be too provocative as when Chris refused to pay the fine the Magistrates only sentenced him to a week in gaol.

He was in trouble again with authorities the following September for illegally having in his pocession six cartons of American cigarettes. He told the Judge that he bought them from a man who was under the banyan tree. He was fined 25pound plus costs.

Although he had had a few brushes with the law, he was successful in obtaining his Naturalisation Papers on 10 February 1947.  The following year he applied for his wife Anna and his two children be allowed admission to Australia.

Chris sailed onboard the M V Koolinda from Darwin to Fremantle in 1951. It is possible Anna and his children had arrived in Fremantle.

Sometime later Chris returned to Darwin and he was listed on the 1954 Electoral Roll the listed his occupation as a cook.

After that year the remaining Electoral Rolls have him living in Wade Street, Perth as a builders labourer and living with him was Anna and children would all be eligible to vote.

Chris passed away on 11 November 1995 at the age of 86. He and Anna, who passed away in 2002, are both buried in Karrakatta Cemetery Crematorium.

They had lived in Wade Street, Perth over forty years. It is most likely their own home, as soon after Anna died the house was sold.
