John Clark enlisted at 17 years and eight months during September 1915. He was one of 10 children; his family having come out to Australia from England in early 1914. His mother Alice had passed away soon after and William’s father, William Joseph Clark, enlisted in 1915 at the age of 45 and was killed in action at Mouquet Farm in 1916.
His two brothers, 3783 Pte William Walter Clark MM, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion and 52992 Private George Clark 14th Battalion AIF, both enlisted and returned to Australia during 1919.
John Clark married in 1919 but was unfortunately killed in a railway accident in Roma during November 1920.
