Private William Cyril Anderson (Service No:VX30797) enlisted in the Army on 7 June 1940 with 2 Infantry Training Battalion. (He adjusted his name - William James - and DoB - 3 September 1920 in his Attestation Papers). Private Anderson served in the Middle East and Palestine (14 September 1940 - 7 March 1943) as a Corporal attached to 6th Division Provost Coy. Corporal Anderson served in Port Moresby, Lae, Milne Bay, Bougainville and Torokina (16 July 1943 - 10 September 1945) with 101 Australian General Transport Coy and as a Driver with 62 Australian Transport Platoon. He was discharged on 17 October 1945.
Born in Beaufort, Victoria in 1920, William was the eldest of seven children of William James Anderson Snr (b1892 in Beaufort, Victoria) and Emily Lyons (b1893 in Waterloo via Beaufort, Victoria). William Snr was a Farmer in Beaufort in 1920 when he and Emily married. William Snr was a Hospital Attendant when he enlisted in WWI (Private; Service No:304) and a Labourer when he returned from WWI. William Snr and Emily lived in Trawalla and Brewster where they raised their family and William Snr was a Farmer. William Snr served in the ACMF in WWII (Corporal; Service No:V240786).
William was working in Brewster as a Truck Driver when he enlisted in the Army in 1940. Following his Discharge he returned to Beaufort where he worked as a Truck Driver and in 1945 in Ballarat, married Coralie Helen Bellis (b1923 in Adelaide, South Australia). William and Coralie settled in Burrumbeet via Beafort where they raised theirf amily and William was a Farmer. William died in 1992 and Coralie in 2014.
