George Allan BUCHANAN was born in Smeaton, Victoria on 5th April, 1883

His parents were John BUCHANAN & Jane STARK

He enlisted in Melbourne on 26th February, 1916 & embarked with the 22nd Infantry Battalion, 16th reinforcements  on 2nd October, 1916 on the HMAT Nestor

He was wounded at Bullecourt on 3rd May, 1917 and also wounded at Passchendaele on 4th October, 1917 while acting as a despatch carrier and died from these wounds at the 10th Casualty Clearing Station on 6th October, 1917

He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery and his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
