William James Munro Edwards was born on 25th June, 1891, at Waverley, and was a brother of Colin Munro Edwards and George Munro Edwards. He was educated at Scots College, Sydney. He entered the service of the Bank at Head Office on 2nd April, 1908.

William James Edwards enlisted in the 1st Australian Light Horse in May, 1915, and fought in all actions with that body on the Suez Canal and across the desert from Romani (in July, 1916) to Beersheba in Palestine. He was promoted to second lieutenant in August, 1915, and to lieutenant on the field in October, 1916. He was killed on 3rd November, 1917, while leading his troop in action a few miles north of Beersheba. - Source - Bank of NSW Roll of Honour

Mr. W .T. Edwards, chief inspector of the Bank of New South Wales, has received word that his eldest son, Lieutenant William James Munro Edwards, of the Australian Light Horse, has been killed in action in Palestine. Lieutenant Edwards was an old boy of the Scots College, and after two years in the service of the Bank of New South Wales engaged in pastoral pursuits. He enlisted in 1915 as a trooper in the Light Horse, and gained his commission before sailing for Egypt in March, 1916. He was later promoted to be first lieutenant. He was married in January, 1916, to Miss Amie Grace, eldest daughter of Mr. Grace, Norman House, Randwick.
