Son of John Burford and Mary Ann (nee Crossman) Burford of Yacka, SA; brother of Arthur William Burford, Alice Maud Burford, Emily Ann Burford, Albert Henry Burford who died of wounds on 21 February 1917 while serving with the 32nd Battalion, Charles Thomas Burford, Horace John Burford, Edward Oliver Burford, Eva Eliza Burford and  David Percival Burford who returned to Australia on 12 May 1918 having served with the 48th Battalion,

20 December 1917 - return to Australia for discharged

On 3 August 1921 Allan married Bertha Eliza Millard  in the Marmon Hall, Jabuk, SA
