Biography

James Wawn AMBLER was born on 5th September, 1893 in Prahran, Victoria

His parents were Raphael AMBLER and Mary Ann Alice WATSON

He enlisted on 28th February 1916 with the Australian Army as  a Gunner with the Howitzer Brigade 120 - Unit embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Aneas on 3rd October, 1916

James was Killed in Action by a shell at Menin Gate, Ypres on his 24th birthday, 5th September, 1917 - he is buried at  Ypres Reservoir Cemetery in Belgium -His unit was the 5th Australian Division Trench Mortars. He was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal.
