Son of James Henry Hickey and Elizabeth Mary Hickey nee Williams of 'Fernmount', of Bellinger River, NSW
Brother of James Patrick Hickey who returned to Australia on 12 March 1919 having served with the Australia Naval & Military Expeditionary Force Medical Corps and Richard William Hickey who returned to Australia on 26 November 1919 having served with the 15th Battalion
In February 1917 he was accidently wounded when a revolver fired injurying his knee
Returned to Australia on 1 September 1919 aboard HT Burma
