Private Andrew Barby (Service No:V504695) served in the ACMF from 18 December 1942 to 21 February 1944 and was attached to 3 Australian Training Battalion and 24 Employment Coy.
Andrew was born in Foxhow, Victoria in 1911, eighth of ten children of John (Jack) William Barby (b1863 in Inverleigh, Victoria) and Jane Dunn (b1877 at Leigh Creek via Moorabool, Victoria). Jack (a Labourer) and Jane married in 1893 in Foxhow, Victoria where they raised their family and Jack was a Labourer. Jack was a Farmer in Colac in 1921 when he died and, following his death, Jane remarried and settled in Melbourne.
Andrew started work in Melbourne as a Labourer and Loader and Packer, and was a Tinsmith/Sheetmetal Worker in 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF. (He was also known on occasion as Andrew Barber). Following his Discharge, Andrew worked as a Labourer in Melbourne, where in 1944 he married Mavis Veronica Jones (b1919 in Yarraville, Melbourne, Victoria) - Mavis was working as a Canister Maker. Andrew and Mavis settled in Yarraville, where they raised their family and Andrew was a Labourer. Andrew died in 1982 and Mavis in 2017.
