Emerson Castle

Emerson Castle was born 26th July 1891, at Birnam, Gowrie Creek, Toowoomba Queensland. Son of Emerson Castle and Frances Helen Castle (nee Dann).
Emerson Castle enlisted at Brisbane 5th August 1915.
Allotted Army number 1395, and the rank of Private.
Embarked at Sydney for the Middle East with the 11th Reinforcements 2nd Light Horse Regiment per HMAT "Mashobra" on 4th October 1915.Taken on strength of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment on the 13th August 1916.
Admitted to 66th Casualty Clearing Station sick on 18th April 1918. Admitted to the 14th General Hospital at Port Said on the 22nd April 1918. Transferred to the Rest Camp on the 6th May 1918.
Taken on strength of the 1st Light Horse Training Regiment on 15th May 1918. Rejoined the 2nd Light Horse Regiment on 30th May 1918.
Emerson Castle was wounded when a bomb hit the water wagon he and 3 others were collecting. The horses and the 3 Light Horsemen were killed. Emerson Castle was presumed dead. Three days later a burial party headed by an English doctor found him to still be alive. Admitted to the 14th General Hospital on the 27th July 1918. Transferred to the Rest Camp at Port Said on 2nd September 1918. Rejoined unit on 14th October 1918.
Embarked for Australia per HT " Ulimaroa"on 13th March 1919.
Arrived at Melbourne on 19th April 1919 for onward movement to Brisbane.
Discharged in Brisbane on 21st June 1919.

Emerson Castle died 26 February 1976 in Brisbane.
After WW1 Emerson Castle had a bullock team and supplied saw mills in Nukku and Yarraman with timber then he had several dairy farms in the Nukku district.
Emerson Castle's daughter Daphne Calvert (nee Castle) was my Mother.It is with great pride I write of this decent, hard working wonderful grandfather.
