Sapper Ernest John Barrell (Service No:N108009) enlisted in the ACMF in April 1941 and was attached to 9 Workshop and Parks Coy RAE in September 1942 when he was Discharged (medical).

The sixth of ten children, Ernest was born in 1903 in Sydney NSW to George Henry Barrell (b1866 in Sydney, NSW) and Amy Louise Mayne (b1870 in Sydney, NSW). George (a Carpenter) and Amy married in 1888 in Sydney NSW, where they raised their family. George was a Carpenter until his death in 1925. Ernest worked as Motor/Bus Driver in Sydney, Parkes and Cowper before enlisting in the ACMF in 1941.

Following his Discharge in 1942, Ernest was a Driver in Sydney and in 1943 married Dulcie Rita Power (b1907 in Cobar, NSW) - Dulcie was a Textile Worker in Sydney. Ernest and Dulcie settled in Granville where Ernest worked as a Bus Driver and a Lorry Driver. Dulcie died in 1968 and Ernest in 1983.
