Previously served with the Volunteers Tepremoult Artillery for three years
Son of William Urpeth and Frances Ann Urpeth of Marden Terrace, Cullercourts Northumberland, England.
11 September 1916 - enlisted at Sydney, NSW, with the 21st Battalno and with the rank of Private.
4 October 1917 - wounded. Shell shock
1 September 1918 - wounded in action, second occasion. Multpile wounds including shoulder, face and neck. Invalided to England on 5 Septmeber 1918
18 January 1919 - commenced return to Australia on aboard HT Ulysses as wounded disembarking on 4 March 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney.
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
14 August 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to wounding.
During 1919c Francis married Elizabeth C.G. Patterson in Chatswood
