Leading Aircraftman George Henry Thomas (Service No:65867) enlisted in the RAAF at No 2 Recruiting Centre Sydney on 9 June 1942 - mustered as Driver Motor Transport. ACI Thomas was attached to No 1 Mobile Works Squadron (MWS) on 1 January 1943 when he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman. LAC Thomas then served with No 7 Repair & Salvage Unit (R&SU) Richmond in 1944, and was attached to 3 Malaria Control Unit at Discharge on 6 December 1945. Both his sons also served in WWII - Lee in the RAAF and Arthur in the RAN.
George was born in Perth, WA in 1901, seventh of eleven children of Watkin (William) Wynn Thomas (b1861 in Worcestershire, England) and Mary Elizabeth Avery (b1863 in Warwickshire, England) William was a Draper in Melbourne in 1890 when he and Mary married - Mary had arrived in Melbourne earlier that year on board the Aruba. In 1898 William and Mary moved to Western Australia with their five children, and settled in Victoria Park where they raised their family and William was a Draper/Storekeeper.
George moved to Sydney, NSW in the early 1920s, and was a Bread Carter for F Bowman of Rose Bay in 1924 when he married Dorothy May Meeking (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria). George and Dorothy settled in Sydney where they raised their family - George was a Bread Carter in Bondi in 1942 when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, George and Dorothy settled in Paddington where George was a Storekeeper and Builder. Dorothy died in 1966 and George in 1969.
