Youngest of three brothers who served in WWII, Sergeant Douglas Claude Miller (Service No:NX50770) enlisted in the AIF on 25 June 1940 as a Private. He served with 2nd/2nd Machine Gun Battalion as a Corporal in the Middle East (9 February 1941 - 27 February 1943) and as a Sergeant in New Guinea (9 August 1943 - 25 March 1944). In January 1944, Sergeant Miller attended the New Guinea Weapons Training Scool (Distinction) and was attached to 2nd/2nd Machine Gun Battalion at Discharge on 6 September 1945.

Born in Manildra, NSW in 1920, Doug was fourth of five children (and youngest of three sons) of Claude Giffin Miller (b1887 in Molong, NSW) and Jessie Maud Griffith (b1888 in Molong, NSW). Claude (a Farmer/Grazier at Manildra) and Jessie married in 1913 in Molong, and settled at Manildra where they raised their family and Claude was a Farmer/Grazier. Claude served in WWI (Private; Service No:54244), and in 1923 was seriosly injured in Parkes when the car in which he was a passenger was hit by a train at a level crossing - his mother and brother Wilfred were killed.

Doug was a Farm Labourer on the family property at Moolahway in Manildra when he enlisted in the Army in 1940. In Sydney in 1944, he married Elaine (Lainey) Mary Johns (b1921 at Broken Hill, NSW) - Lainey was Corporal (Service No:94387) in the WAAF. Following his Discharge, Doug and Lainey first lived at  Moolahway before settling in the 1950s at Woolgarlo via Manildra, where they raised thier family and Doug was a Farmer. Doug died in 1987 and Lainey in 2005.
