Gunner Harvey Thomas Matthews (Service No:NX88976) enlisted as a Private in the AIF on 17 February 1942 with 8 Training Battalion, and served with 32 Light Anti Aircraft Battery - graded Gunlayer. Private/Gunner Mattews was attached to 53 Anti Aircraft Regiment in New Guinea (Buna; 21 October 1942 - 5 February 1944) and Borneo (Morotai and Tarakan; 26 April 1945 - 14 December 1945). Gunner Matthews was attached to 53 Anti Aircraft Regiment at Discharge on 6 February 1946).

Harvey was born in Peak Hill, NSW in 1922, second son of Herbert (Bert) Norman Mattews (b1891 in Peak Hill, NSW) and Eileen Sylvia Hocking (b1895 in Parkes, NSW). Bert served in WWI (Private; Service No:67439) and was a Dairy Farmer in 1920 when he and Eileen married in Parkes, NSW. Bert and Eileen settled in Peak Hill, where they raised their family and Bert was a Farmer.

Harvey worked in Peak Hill as a Farm Labourer before enlisting in the Army, and was a Farmer in 1947 when he married Barbara Leonie Coghlan (b1920 in Tooraweenah, NSW) in Narromine - Barbara was working as a Shop Assistant in Peak Hill. Harvey and Barbara settled at 'Waratah' in Peak Hill, where they raised their family and Harvey was a Farmer. In the late 1970s Harvey and Barbara moved to Mooloolaba, QLD where Harvey worked as a Milk Vendor. Harvey died in 2014 and Barbara in 2017).
