Son of George and Mary Alice WADDELL
Second Lieut. L. W. Teitzel, writing from France to Mrs. M. Waddell of Tivoli, gives an account of how her son, Private W. J. Waddell, was killed. He states: "On the afternoon of June 23 our company, and my platoon in particular, was subjected to a severe bombardment, during which your son was killed instantaneously. As his platoon commander, I greatly deplore the loss of such a good soldier as your son proved to be, even though he had not been with us for a long period and we can ill afford to lose men of such sterling value. In your sad bereavement you have the sincerest sympathy of my company commamder, your son's comrades, and myself. We can only hope that the fact that your son died bravely for his country will be of some consolation to you."
