Grew up at Blacks Camp Mission, Falls Road, Wellington until he was around age 14 then Nanima Falls, Wellington at the Aboriginal Mission.

Between the wars and post WW2 worked as a gardiner at Wellington "Bindawalla Hospital" at Wellington.

Is of Aboriginal descent to Wollar (near Mudgee) and Wellington Districts. Is a descendant of Jurunyah (GG Grandfather - Full Blood) through his son Willy Stewart.
