Third of the four brothers who served in WWII (Keith, Edwin, James and Bruce), Lieutenant James Lloyd Meredith (Service Nos:T5137/TX6065) initially served in the Senior Cadets at Launceston Grammar School, then the Militia (Gunner, Bombardier; Service No:VE/T5137) with 16th Field Battery (21 September 1939 - 25 July 1940). On 28 October 1940 he enlisted in the ACMF, and was attached to 6 Field Regiment when he enlisted in the AIF on 14 January 1941. Lieutenant Meredith served with 2/2 Australian Field Regiment in the Middle East, including Greece and Crete (2 November 1941 - 7 August 1942), and in New Guinea (Aitape - Wewak; 2 November 1942 - 9 February 1943 and 1 December 1944 - 12 December 1945). Lieutenant Meredith was attached to 2/2 Field Regiment at Termination of Appointment on 31 January 1946.
Lloyd was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1920, third of four children (sons) of George Stewart Meredith (b1883 in Wellington, New Zealand) and Ethel Nancy Roxburgh (b1888 in Bathurst, New South Wales). George arrived in Hobart on board the SS Warrimoo in 1906, and worked for the Launcestion Maritime Board. Appointed Secretary and Shipping Master to the Board in 1912, George and Ethel married in 1913 in Launceston, where they settled and raised their family and George was Secretary to the Launceston Marine Board.
Lloyd was a Clerk when he enlisted in the Army in 1939, and following his Discharge, was a Clerk in Launceston in 1947 when he married Valerie Anne Snow (b1926 in London, England). Lloyd and Valerie settled in Launceston, where they raised their family and Lloyd was a Sales Manager until retirement. Lloyd died in 2001, and Valerie died in 2011.
