Born in 1921 in Perth WA, John was the third of four children of Ewart Francis Prosser (b1897 in Cardiff, Wales) and Winifred Mary Dennison (b1897 in Yorkshire, England). Ewart was a Platelayer in Wales in 1915 when he enlisted in the British Army (Private; Regimental No:7/28548). He was a Labourer in London in 1918 when he and Winifred married. The couple immigrated in 1922 under the Group Settlement Scheme, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Osterley with their three children.
