Lance Sergeant Thomas Vincent Toogood (Service No:VX90717) initially enlisted on 27 October 1939 (Private; Service No:VX1332) and served with 2/2 Field Coy RAE - he was a Sapper at Discharge on 18 February 1940. He re-enlisted (using his correct birthdate) on 9 November 1942 as a Private (Driver/Mechanic) and was a Lance Sergeant attached to 4 ordnance Vehile Park AAOC at Discharge on 11 July 1946.

Born in 1909 in Melbourne Victoria, Vin was third of five children of Thomas (Tom) Michael Toogood (b1883 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Ethel Mary Anne Kibby (b1882 in Temora, NSW). Tom (a Blacksmith) and Ethel married in 1905 in Melbourne where they settled and raised their family. Tom worked as a Blacksmith/Farrier and enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:4011) in 1915 - he died of his wounds at sea on the RTA in 1917.

Vin was a Motor Mechanic in Melbourne in 1928 when he married Marjorie Veronica Biggar (b1912 in Melbourne, Vic) - they separated within a short time and Marjorie worked as a Waitress, Factory Worker and Machinist. Vin and Marjorie divorced in 1933 and Vin remarried in 1936 - Sylvia Mary Collingborn (b1909 in Wentworth, NSW). Vin and Sylvia settled in Melbourne where Vin worked as a Mechanic and Engineer. Vin died in 1962 and Sylvia in 1979.
