28 Jul 1916: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 76, 22nd Infantry Battalion, Battle for Pozières , Gunshot wound to this back which fractured his spine and evacuated to England on 9th August 1916 aboard HS Dieppe
15 Sep 1916: Honoured Military Medal, 'For consistent gallant conduct and devotion to duty as Stretcher-Bearers during the operations at Fleurbaix, Armentieres and on the Somme. They have answered the call without hesitation and regardless of heavy fire, setting a fine example of devotion to duty and self sacrifice for the sake of their wounded comrades.'
