Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
Victor Allan CHILDS, (Service Number N87780) was born on 19 December 1894 at Newcastle He commenced working for the NSW Railways as a junior porter in the Sydney District, at first as temporary and then gaining permanency. In 1915, on his 21st birthday he became an adult porter.
His father, Robert was also employed by the NSWGR, as a sleeping car attendant.
Victor was granted leave to join the Expeditionary Forces on 8 June, and less than six weeks later he was dead, without ever having left Australia.
He died at the Field Hospital. Liverpool Camp on 17 July from ‘Acute Bronchial Pneumonia’.
Childs was buried at the Baptist Cemetery, Field of Mars, Ryde.

Victor Allan CHILDS, (Service Number 87780) was born on 19th December 1894 at Newcastle. He commenced working for the NSW Railways as a junior porter in the Sydney District, at first as temporary and then gaining permanency. In 1915, on his 21st birthday he became an adult porter.
His father Robert was also employed by the NSWGR. He was a sleeping car attendant.
Victor was granted leave to join the Expeditionary Forces on 8th June 1918. Less than six weeks later he was dead. He had never left Australia.
On his Attestation Papers he claimed four years’ experience in the Militia. This experience led to him being appointed Corporal in the Field Company Recruit Depot despite his short career. He was not married.
He died at the Field Hospital in Liverpool Camp on 17th July1918 from ‘Acute Bronchial Pneumonia’.
He was buried at the Baptist Cemetery, Field of Mars, Ryde.
