Henry Spencer ELDRIDGE, (Service Number N31800) was born on 16 April 1895 at Bankstown. He commenced working for the Railways as a cleaner at Eveleigh Locomotive Depot on 11 November 1913 and remained in this role until he was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces on 1 August 1916. In his Attestation Papers he upgraded his work role to locomotive fireman, stated that he was not married and nominated his mother living in St Peters as his next of kin. After enlistment in Sydney, Eldridge was transferred to the 1st Depot Battalion at Cootamundra for training, where he died of pneumonia on 1 September 1916.
He is buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Rookwood, Sydney.
