Harold Thomas Ewart was the son of Walter John and Annie Mabel Ewart of North Ballarat, Victoria.
His older brother, 4344 Pte. Eric John Ewart 7th Battalion AIF was killed in action near Flers on 6 November 1916, aged 25.
Harold enlisted on 17 July 1915 in Ballarat at the age of 22. He had only just married to Eleanor Elizabeth Stevenson the same year. He died of meningitis in the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, on 25 August 1915. His body was sent to Ballarat for burial.
Eleanor was awarded a pension of 52 pounds per annum.
