Son of John Smith BENNETT and Emily Ann nee FRYAR
He was offered a Grammar School Schloarship in February 1899.
Attended Brisbane Grammar School Feburary 1899 to December 1901 - Passed Sydney Junior Examination 1901
Paid his own fare to England to join the Royal Flying Corps.
1915 - Mr: R. J. Bennett, Longreach, has arrived in England. He hopes to obtain a commission in the Royal Flying Corps.
Enlisted in Royal Air Force in 1915
Promoted to Flight Commander and Cpatian and appointed Instuctor at Aerodromes in England.
Information has been received that Mr. R.J. Bennett, son of Mr. J.S. Bennett, Chief Clerk of the Lands Department, who left his position as Central Queensland representative of Winchcombe, Carson and Co. to join the Royal Flying corps in England is now a second lieutenant, and is engaged in flying exercises in England. He was first attached to base in Ireland, and as he has only been away a few months he must have made considerable progress.
Information has been received that Lieutenant R. J. Bennett, son of Mr. J. S. Bennett (chief clerk. Lands Department), passed his examination in the Royal Flying Corps, in England, with an average of 92 per cent., and has since gone to the Front in France.
July 1916 - Mr. J. S. Bennett, of the Lands Department, have received a letter from his son, R. J. Bennett, of the Royal Flying Corps, stating that he has entered upon active work as an aviator in the British lines in France, and expects to have some exciting experiences.
August 1916 - Mr. J. S. ,Bennett, chief clerk of the Lands Department, has received a cable gram from his son Flight Lieutenant Reginald Bennett, of the Royal Flying Corps, who was recently wounded during a flight in France, and taken to Wimereux Hospital on July 30 with a Bullet through thigh, not dangerous; comfortable."
After returning from the war, Reginald was living at 'Geurie' Howard Avenue, Dee Why NSW in January 1923
