Private John William HARTSHORN was working as a Cabinetmaker when at the age of 19 years he enlisted with the 31st Battalion on the 5th July 1915 at Brisbane.

John died of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis at Brisbane General Hospital on the 14th August 1915 aged 19 years and was buried at Toowong Cemetery – Portion 5, Section 12, Grave 8.
