Shortly before 8 a.m. yesterday the Water Police recovered from the Brisbane River, opposite the Edward street ferry, the body of a man dressed in soldier's uniform, which had apparently been in the water for a day or two. It was taken to the morgue, and a subsequent search revealed a military leave pass issued from Fraser's Hill Camp, to Private Patrick O'Connor. The pass was issued on November 4 at 1.30 pm, and allowed leave until 11.30 p.m. on the following day. The body was subsequently identified as that of Patrick O'Connor, a soldier of the A.I.F. stationed at Fraser's Hill. He had enlisted in Queensland, but as far as can be gathered he had no relatives in Australia, his next of kin residing in Ireland. He was 28 years of age. A post-mortem examination held subsequently showed death to be due to asphyxia by drowning.
