Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

The Rev. C. V. P. Day was serving in the Church of England as Assistant Curate at Beckenham (Eng.) in 1897. He was engaged to serve in the clergy in Queensland, Australia during a visit to London by the Bishop of Brisbane that year. He sailed with the Bishop on the Ophir to Australia in late 1897.

He was serving as Vicar at Christ Church, Milton, Brisbane, Qld in Feb 1900 when he offered his service as Chaplain to the Qld Contingent for the Boer War. Initially this was refused with the government not sending a Chaplain with Third Contingent, however, he was subsquently accepted and departed May 1900 with 4th Qld Contingent. Not long after his return in 1901 he embarked again with the 6th Qld Contingent.

On his return from the Boer War he served as Chaplain Secretary to Bishop Webber in Brisbane. By 1903 he was located with the North Queensland Diocese as a Sub-Dean in Townsville and Archdeacon in Mackay. In Feb 1904 he announced his engagement to Helen Constance Lambert of Whltley Hall, Northumberland, England who travelled to Australia for their marriage in Jun 1904. In Jun 1905 the couple returned to England departing in Sydney aboard the Ville de Ciotat. In 1906 he was appointed Vicar of Limperhoe, Yarmouth, England.

Between 1912 and 1921 he served as Vicar at The Church of St John the Baptist, Glastonbury, Somerset, England. For over half that time he again offered his service and served as Chaplain with the Forces, including the Australian Forces, in France for the duration of WW1. His service would see him appointed a CBE. He died suddenly in 1921 from heart failure following an operation.
