Private Lionel Clarence Jacobs (Service No:3167) enlisted in the AIF on 24 October 1916 and was attached to 48th Infantry Battalion  when he embarked from Fremantle for Devonport on 23 December 1916 on board HMAT Berrima A35. Private Jacobs was hospitalised with Influenza and Pneumonia and embarked from England for the RTA on 27 July 1917 on board A64 HS Demosthenes. Private Jacobs was Discharged on 6 October 1917.

Born in 1895 in Warragul Victoria, Lionel was sixth of eight children of James Laden Jacobs (b1861 in Dandenong, Victoria) and Keren Happuch Standing (b1863 in Dandenong, Victoria). James (a Labourer) and Keren married in 1883 in Melbourne, Victoria and in 1890 James was sworn in as a Police Constable (No:4323). He resigned in 1900 and moved his family to Perth WA where they settled in Leederville and James worked as a Labourer and Railways Employee.

Lionel worked as a Labourer in Perth and gave his occupation as Printer when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916. Following his Discharge, Lionel worked as a Hospital Attendant in Kalgoorlie WA, where in 1923 he married Alice Elizabeth Francis Green (b1902 in Coolgardie WA). Lionel and Alice moved to Claremont in Fremantle WA where Lionel was a Labourer. By 1931 he was Lighthouse Keeper at Cape Naturaliste WA and then long serving Lighthouse Keeper on Rottnest Island, WA. By the late 1950s Lionel and Alice had moved to Collie WA where Lionel was a Garage Hand, and in 1959 they were living in Perth and Lionel was a Postal Employee. Lionel died in 1973 and Alice in 1976.
