Francis John Perry
Francis John Perry was born the first and only son of Francis Sinclair Perry and his wife Ada May Paterson on 25th February 1898 in Balmain.
On 2nd April 1918, Francis enlisted in the Australian Army. He had been working as a warehouseman and was aged just 20 years and 3 months so his parents’ approval was required for him to enlist but for some administrative reason this approval was not recorded.
He embarked on SS Wyreema on 14th October 1918 as part of the 23rd Reinforcements but as peace was declared during the voyage the ship was recalled in mid December 1918 and Francis was discharged from the army on 5th January 1919.
Frank married Gladys Daphne May Vines in the Parramatta district in 1929. By that time he was an electrician. They originally lived in Granville but later moved to Rosehill where they raised their family that included Phillip Edgar Knox Perry, Daphne Violet Barbara Maidment and Gloria Beryl Ellen Cooper. Frank suffered a number of serious accidents including one in March 1935 when he fell off a 15 foot ladder and fractured the base of his skull.
Gladys died on 19th September 1978 and Francis on 20th October 1988.
