Ossie Sibly was born in Willunga, South Australia and was a single man aged 30 years when he enlisted at Liverpool, Sydney. While he had previously been rejected for being 'undersize at time', he now weighed 126lb (57kg) and at 5'5" (165cm) tall, was passed as medically fit. Ossie embarked on 8 October 1915 with the 4th Battalion Reinforcements to Tel-el-Kebir, Egypt and returned to Australia on 19 March 1916. He re-embarked on 8 November 1916 and arrived in France on 11 May 1917. On 24 September 1917, he received a gunshot wound to the foot, and then was gassed on 21 March 1918, which resulted in his evacuation to England. He returned home on 10 May 1919. Ossie later resided at Caulfield, Melbourne and died on 28 August 1928, aged 41 years. He never married, and is buried along with his mother in Brighton Cemetary. Two of his brothers, James Oliver and William Libby, also served.
