DEATH OF MICK BOURKE
The numerous friends on the goldfields of Private Michael P.J. Bourke will be grieved to learn that he died in the No. 8 Australian General Hospital, Fremantle on June 26, in his 34th year. The deceased who was born at Keyneton, Victoria, had resided in this State for 15 years, and leaves a widow and a young family of two sons and a daughter. Whilst living on the goldfields he identified himself with all branches of athletics, especially pedestrianism, introducing to that sport here such good performers as J. Quinn, e. Valli, and Williams.
For six years he was employed on the Great Boulder mine. At the time of his death he was a member of the 2nd reinforcements of the 44th Battalion, Claremont. At the conclusiion of the service at the graveside three volleys were fired and the "Last Post" sounded by the bugler. Wreaths were placed on the grave by comrades of the 2nd reinforcements of the 44th Battalion and by many relatives and friends. The deceased was a brother to Jim Bourke, the well-known Belmont horse trainer.
