Served as a Rifleman with the 4th Battalion, 3rd NZ Rifle Brigade
He reported ill on 24.6.1917 and was admitted to hospital in France. He was subsequently repatriated to England on 10.11.1917. Quintal was classified as unfit due to chronic tuberculosis and embarked for New Zealand on 2.2.1918 where he was discharged on 3.7.1918.
