Husband of Nellie Quiney nee Woodgate of Bingera Plantation via Bundaberg, QLD. Joseph and Nellie married in QLD on 18 December 1912.
23 May 1916 - enlisted at Bundaberg, QLD with the 42nd Battalion and rank of Private, Service Number 2150
20 November 1916 - transferred to the 3rd Pioneer Battalion Letter A added to his service number when taken on strength now 2150A
1 April 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Shropshire as invalid disembarking on 16 May 1919 at Melbourne. On 17 May 1919 he re-embarked aboard HT Dongala for onward travel to Brisbane

14 June 1919 - discharged at the 1st Military District as medically unfit.
