Killed by a Train.
Inquiry into Soldier's Death.
Mr. R. D. Neilson, J.P., on Tuesday, concluded the inquiry into the death of the soldier Donald Peter Biddle, who was run over by a train and killed at the Brunswick street railway  station on 5th June. Sergeant McCarthy examined the witnesses.
Walter Latham, engine-driver, in the employ of the Commissioner for Railways, stated that on the afternoon in question, he was the driver of a train which left the Central station  tor Enoggera at 5.24 p.m. When approaching Brunswick street platform, he reduced his speed to about 10 miles an hour. He looked ahead and saw all was clear. When half-way along the platform, he felt a slight hump and he immediately applied the brakes and brought the train to a standstill. He was told that a man was under the train. Quartermaster- sergeant Turner stated that the deceased enlisted on 7th February. He was a sober and steady man. He frequently had been to town by train. Evidence also was given by Private G. Reid and Constable James Howard who produced a copy of the certificate of death. It showed that death was caused by a compound fracture of both legs and
shock.
