Private Walter James Davey (Service No:TX5535) enlisted in the Australian Army on 12 June 1941 and served with 2/43 Infantry Battalion in the Middle East (1 November 1941 - 27 February 1943), New Guinea (8 August 1943 - 31 January 1944) and Borneo (8 April 1945 - 21 January 1946). Private Davey was Discharged on 15 February 1946.
Born in 1911 at Deddington in Tasmania, Walter was the sixth of ten children of Adam Davey (b1869 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Margaret Duncanson (b1878 at Emu Bay, Tasmania). Adam (a Labourer) and Margaret married in 1900 in Launceston, Tasmania and lived in George Town, Evandale and Longford before settling at Deddington where they raised their family and Adam worked as a Labourer.
Walter started work as a Farm Hand and was in Scottsdale when he enlisted in the AIF in 1941. Following his Discharge, Walter returned to Scottsdale and in 1946 married Rene Harriet Smith (b1923 at Branxholm, Tasmania) - Rene served with the WRANS in WWII. Walter and Rene settled at Ringarooma where they raised their family and Walter was a Farmer. Walter died in 1980 and Rene in 2015.
