Born in 1892 in Adelaide South Australia, Jack was the eldest of three children of John Charles Roydhouse (b1868 in Wellington, New Zealand) and Grace Thomas (b1869 at Wallaroo Mines, South Australia). John (a Compositor) and Grace married in 1891 in Norwood, South Australia and by the early 1900s had settled in Perth, Western Australia where they raised their family and John worked as a Compositor/Printer and Grace was a Shopkeeper. Their two eldest sons - Jack and Alan - served in WWI, and youngest son Noel served in WWII.
Jack was a School Master in Perth WA when he enlisted in the AIF in 1915. Returning to Perth following his Discharge in 1919, Jack resumed work as a Teacher (Guildford Grammar School and Sportsmaster at Perth High School) and in 1922 married Kathleen Ivy Finlay (b1896 in Perth, WA) - Kathleen was a Typist. Jack joined the Ford Motor Coy as a Sales Manager, and in the mid 1930s the couple moved to Geelong, Victoria where they raised their family and Jack was a Manager with the Ford Motor Coy. Kathleen died in 1970 and Jack in 1986.
