Born in 1889 in Albany WA, Percy was the fifth of nine children of Dr Percy Hugh Wardell-Johnson (b1860 in Essex, England) and Jessie Beatrice Hustler (b1861 in Port Adelaide, South Australia). Percy Snr had immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1869, arriving in Fremantle on board the Robert Morrison and settled in York. Percy Snr studied Pharmacy in Adelaide, SA and established a Chemist Shop in Albany WA from 1881 to 1890. Percy Snr and Jessie married in 1883 and in 1891 Percy Snr and Jessie went to England with their family and Percy studied Medicine. Returning in 1894, Percy Snr and Jessie lived in York and Albany before settling in Perth in 1904, where Percy Snr was a Medical Practitioner and Chief Medical Officer.
Percy was a Bank Clerk in Perth when he enlisted in the AIF in 1916. Following his Discharge, Percy returned to Perth and worked as a Bank Clerk before moving to Sydney NSW in the mid 1920's. Percy was an Audit Clerk in Sydney in 1925 when he married Alice Maud Frances Kibblewhite (b1889 in Bengal, India). Percy and Alice settled in Sydney where Percy was an Audit Clerk. Alice died in 1965 and Percy in 1969.
