John (Jack) Seymour Ross was born in Albany WA in 1923, youngest of nine children of Alexander Ross (b1876 in Bungaree, Victoria) and Lillian May Saul (b1885 in York, WA). Alexander was working on the Mundaring-Coolgardie water pipeline in 1907 when he and Lillian married in Midland Junction, Guildford, WA. By 1910 they had moved to Torbay on the Denmark Line via Albany before settling in Bornholm via Albany by 1916. Alexander worked as a Farmer and Foreman with Public Works.

Jack worked as a Farm Hand in Bornholm before enlisting in the Army. In 1948 in Albany he married Elvie Jean Monck (b1930 in Albany, WA) and settled at Bornholm where he was a Farmer. In 1949 Jack and his brother Ray discovered their father's body in the home - Alexander had shot himself. Jack and Elvie lived at Bornholm, where Jack was a Farmer  until the late 1950s when they settled in Albany and Jack worked as a Labourer and Contractor. In the mid 1970s they moved to Perth (Applecross) where Jack worked as a Greenkeeper. Jack died in 2010 and Elvie in 2019.
