Bill was born in Perth, WA in 1921, youngest of two children of Arthur Edgar James Anderson (b1892 in Fremantle, WA) and Margaret Ethel May Peters (b1892). Arthur was a Fireman in Perth with the WAGR in 1914 when he and Margaret married in Perth. Arthur had started work with the WAGR as a Cleaner in January 1911 in Fremantle before moving to Perth in August 1912 and working as a Fireman. The couple moved to Wongan Hills in 1922 - Arthur was a Fireman and Locomotive Driver with WAGR - and then moved to Bunbury in 1950 where Arthur retired in 1958.
Bill was working as a Slaughterman/Butcher in Wongan Hills in 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF - and married Mary Jane Ross (b1920 in Albany, WA) in Perth. Following his Discharge, Bill and Mary Jane lived around Katanning, where Bill worked as a Ganger before settling in Canning in the 1970s. Bill died in 1978 and Mary Jane in 1998.
